The Urge to Purge

Were you ever in one of those moods where you just wanted to rid yourself of every single thing in your house that doesn't belong?

We're currently in the throes of one of those urges - our "G-Sale Extravaganza" starts next Wednesday and we're getting the clutter out! :D

Now, you'd think that being a collector of vintage goodies, I'd have a very hard time getting rid of any of my stash.  And for the most part, that's true.  But there also comes a time when even I have to say, "Enough's enough!"

Over the past three years, I have amassed a wealth of wonderful vintage magazines, starting with a gigantic pile of old Lifes that I got at an auction in August of 2009.  Since then I've picked up more (it's an illness), plus a ton of Better Homes & Gardens, Good Housekeeping, Family Circle, Woman's Day and Collier's.  I currently have more magazines than I'll ever be able to use in my lifetime, even if I did a collage per day.  So out go some of my old Lifes..

A while back I bought a ridiculously large lot of old ham radio calling cards - you may remember the post where I talked about them.  If I'm being honest, I could get rid of HALF of them and still have enough left for me to be content.  So into the sale they go!

Apparently at some point I was on a quest to obtain every single new-old stock can label that was ever produced.  I think I've come close to doing just that!  If I got rid of even a THIRD of my old labels I don't think I'd even miss them.  I hope they sell!

One of my favorite things in the whole world is matchbooks.  I'll bet you can see where this is going!  Yep, for a while I went a little crazy with the collecting.  So the other day I sorted through my stash and found some doozies.  Oh, don't worry - I'll still have enough matchbooks to satisfy my collaging AND to keep candles lit every hour until I'm 85.  :D

I don't even know where to begin with my love of old books!  If you're a regular reader of this blog then you're probably aware that old books, especially old textbooks, are another of my Achilles' heels.  The illustrations have fueled some of my favorite vintage ephemera collages.  But somewhere along the way I hit my saturation point, so I have to separate the wheat from the chaff.  My loss is your gain!

So there you have it - just a sampling of the vintage stuff we'll be selling at our awesome garage sale!  (Disclaimer:  the photos are just representative - it probably won't be this exact stuff for sale.  I just had these photos and didn't want to take new ones.)  :D  Fond du Lac area friends - if you're interested in this sale, leave a comment either here or on the FB page and I'll give you the deets!
